Owen Ashton, BIM Implementation Manager, North West

Owen and his team are working with BIMBox to define a new dataset that describes the information required for upcoming changes in fire and building safety (Fire Information Exchange, FIREie). This dataset is flexible so can be used on current and future projects and will ensure we are ready when the Building Safety Bill and the New BS 8644 Part 1 are formally introduced. The Islington Wharf 4 project in Salford is the test project where we are collecting this data and is also where we are creating and testing new ways of capturing and presenting Test and Inspection Information and photographic records for every room / space of the building. This will provide a robust Golden Thread of Information for a residential project for the first time in our business.

Chris Macdonald, Project Manager, Investment Related Business (IRB)

Chris was appointed to act as Project Manager for the Circular Twin project, which was a challenging piece of research and development work undertaken with Scape and consultancy partners with a brief to disrupt the design process and focus on driving carbon out of our solutions.

Chris very quickly brought the team together and drove the project to successful completion resulting in strengthened relationships with SCAPE and an approach that has given the business a lot of recognition for our carbon reduction approach that we're now actively using with our customers.

Stuart Beith, Carnbroe & Sikeside Community Hub, Scotland

Stuart introduced supply chain partner, Ground Developments to the business, who undertook a ground remediation strategy. This strategy has enhanced programme, site appearance, ground stability and a commercial benefit. The team have negated what would have a significant off-site removal of spoil. The process not only brings best value to the Customer in reduction of significant cost but contributes towards the de-carbonisation agenda through not having to transport off-site for what may have been large distances. The finished operation leaves a platformed site that is suitable to run heavy vehicles on but also leaves the site at formation level meaning the ground worker can immediately start on foundations and drainage and provide the car parking facility that creates a great impression for visitors and workers on site. This also offers a better working surface for follow on trades.

Award made to Steve Holt and Darren Carter for the excellent work in driving and supporting the journey of our SEND engagement culminating in the output of the recent white paper ‘Blueprint for success’ which was presented to the DfE Innovation Forum and received positive endorsement. The journey will continue as the white paper is to be delivered at the Inclusive Learning Environments show on the national stage.

This research has been ongoing for around two years and it just keeps growing. All the time enabling the business to showcase the great work we for in the SEND sector for out customers and end users.

A tender opportunity for a commercially focused client, attracted the top tier of our competitors in the London market. It was clear that we needed to develop and deliver an exceptional tender win strategy and this is just what the Brandon Road team did. With a science and innovation angle of the proposed development, one of the key strategies was for us to use our technical understanding of the project and unpick the architectural and services design to challenge and implement innovative solutions. The team also bought true value creation to the project by increasing the nett lettable area, without any change to the consented scheme. The customer awarded us the project and it converted to site as they could see the innovation and excellence that the pre-construction team delivered.
