We spoke to the team about their Circular Twin experience

Should Cost Modelling (SCM) is a term used commonly in the Construction industry and more recently as part of the Construction Playbook, the Circular Twin process supports SCM. By choosing the right products and materials that will last longer and with fewer replacements earlier in the design process, the team were able to achieve a much clearer view of building costs across a 60-year lifespan.

This insight into products can only be achieved with the support of an extensive and knowledgeable supply chain and this is something Morgan Sindall Construction were able to pull on as part of this research. The team were able to join architects with suppliers at a point in the project that in some cases is almost unheard of.

In Circular Twin, we enabled our engineers to get close to the supply chain in a very collaborative way. This enabled the supply chain to impart critical, real-time information on design, buildability, cost and carbon to our engineers at RIBA Stage 1 and 2 empowering us as a collective Team to make informed design decisions at an ultra-early stage in the evolution of our built asset.

Though shifting our ‘business as usual’ behaviour and having these discussions (which typically occur much later in the design and build process) we were able to pragmatically reduce carbon through our material selections and engineering calculations.

David Rowbottom, Bid Manager, Innovare talks about the teams involvement in the project

Innovaré Systems are uniquely placed to design, engineer and manufacture, supply and install it's own superstructure solutions. Innovare brough a welath of experience from delivering over 200 schools (50,000+ school places) to the Circular Twin project.

They are familiar with the increasing importance of open, informed collaboration together with a 'fabric first' approach which meant that they shared Circular Twin's sustainability ethos and could influence the structural outcomes of the project much earlier than the traditional process enables.
