News from Eastern Counties
Whilst it's important to create inspiring places for people to live, learn, work, play, care and create, it's also vital that we make sure we remain a safe and stable business for our customers, consultants and supply chain to work with.
In February, Morgan Sindall Group announced a record set of end of year results with Group Revenue just over £5bn, Operating Profit of £225.7m and average daily net cash of £367.6m. This helps us plan for the long term and take the right decisions for our people, and our partners and our planet as well.
Over the last year we've continued to host regular workshops with our supply chain and continue to strengthen relationships to ensure we have safe and secure access to the right materials and companies to deliver your projects.
My full team's contact details are at the end of the newsletter, so please do get in touch if you have any questions.

The new Community Diagnostic Centre at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital secured overall Project of the Year at the recent Constructing Excellence Awards.
The £25 million scheme which has brought state-of-the-art medical facilities to the people of Norfolk and Waveney, provides them with faster access to X-Ray, MRI, Ultrasound and CT diagnostic services.
I would like to thank everyone who has played a role in delivering this facility successfully. It is a programme we are particularly proud of bringing together innovative design, workforce and operational standardisation – all with patients and staff at the centre.
Having delivered seven community diagnostic centres in the last two years alone, which include everything from large scale new build to shopping centre fit-outs, we wanted to see if there were common learnings to take forward.
So we gathered our teams together in a series of workshops to see if there were any trends - and consolidated the learnings into ten key learnings.
Our aim is to share the information in the hope that it will help ensure continued improvement in the delivery of these much needed centres.
Each of the seven workshops interrogated design, logistics, programme, specialist kit, acute care factors and much more to help inform a blueprint.
It's our hope these learnings can be used to give projects a flying start when beginning a new diagnostic centre:

Since October 2021, we have regularly set our project teams the challenge to use Intelligent Solutions that reduce carbon from the buildings we deliver by a minimum of 10 tonnes.
This happens three times in a calendar year and focuses our project teams for a month to collaborate with consultants and supply chain to identify where these savings can be made, but more importantly then implement them and share the results.
By using our externally verified, intelligent carbon calculator tool CarboniCa, we're able to model and extract the savings each initiative will make.
In 2025, the teams across Eastern Counties saved a whopping 2,098.5tCO2e in the year, which is equivalent to 777 homes heated in one year.
At James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the team saved 66.1tCO2e by implementing a timber solution for the RAAC panel reinforcement, over the traditionally used steel reinforcement.
Working across the defence sector locally, teams have managed to save over 500tCO2e by redesigning floor plans, reduction material usgae, changing temporary works and implementing new sustainable designs.
Led by Ben Virdee, project manager for Morgan Sindall Construction, the team at James Paget Hospital embarked upon a community project to revitalise the garden at the Sandra Chapman Centre.
The Sandra Chapman centre is a fantastic facility within the hospital where cancer treatment is carried out, but its garden, where patients can turn to relax, had become a little unloved.
So the team set about installing new paving, pergolas and planters as well as revitalising the memorial benches, fences and brickwork planters, so that patients would have a lovely place to retreat to during the summer months.

We love the new look garden, which has ensured that memorials to patients have been preserved while giving the area a bright new look. We know patients and relatives using the Centre will appreciate the garden as a quiet space to spend time in. We’d like to thank Ben and the whole team involved in the project for their hard work.”
As part of this years National Apprenticeship Week, Alister Broadberry was joined by current Apprentices Far and Sam to not only discuss the benefits of their roles, but also delve into Alister's career that began 30 years ago as an apprentice.
That's how busy the Norfolk Skills Festival was this year, and our team were on hand in partnership with Lovell, to give the young people of the county an insight into careers in the industry.
As well as trialling some new resources for GoConstruct, lots of our current apprentices were on hand to host the games that get students thinking about how what they love, translates to a meaningful career in construction.
