How to foster sustainable and inclusive growth
Its centuries long reputation for success and stability belies the fact that today it is at the centre of an area facing a number of challenges and defining opportunities that could fundamentally reshape the future.
This was underlined in a comprehensive 2018 report by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Independent Commission, which stated that the region has several hard choices to make about its future.
These are decisions, on infrastructure, inclusion, growth and investment, that local authorities, businesses and institutions will have to make in the short-term, but ones which will have significant and lasting consequences.
If properly managed however, the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Independent Economic Review (CPIER) concluded that the area could double the value of the goods and services the region produces by 2040.
In the wake of a pandemic that has shone a light on the strengths and weaknesses of many aspects of our society, this is a prime time to reassess the economic, demographic and construction challenges flagged by the CPIER report.
