BEST IN CLASS
Strengthening its core research capabilities
As the sun glints off the impressively designed façade, and the internal spaces take shape, there's is definite excitement about the world class environment this will create for research.
The building, which will provide a designated hub for the School of Chemistry, along with facilities for the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences (GEES) is part of a multi-phased master plan that will provide further academic accommodation in the coming years.

The Molecular Sciences building will strengthen our core research capabilities in the chemical, environmental and biomolecular sciences, fostering an environment for carrying out world-class research.
Designed by Associated Architects the building includes a mix of primary and specialist laboratories, write up areas, offices, lecture rooms, flexible collaborative spaces and a new two storey energy centre.
The high end lab spaces will target the very best professionals in the world.
The development of the Molecular Sciences Building demonstrates our continued commitment to providing the best facilities for staff, students and researchers, providing a vibrant space to encourage new ways of thinking while promoting interdisciplinary work. It will drive collaboration, facilitating greater opportunities between researchers, industry and partner institutions
What we’re trying to do here is create collision spaces where teams bump into each other just by the nature of being in that building which sparks research, conversation and its quite often where the best ideas happen. Fantastic buildings like this help us recruit the right academics, to win the right grants, to carry out the right research in the right environment and then attract the right students. So it’s really important we invest in buildings like this and we partner with companies like Morgan Sindall to deliver them.”
