Introduction
IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS the term ‘Levelling-Up’ has come to define the idea of dismantling the old ‘North-South’ divide and rebalancing the economy. Whatever language is used in the future, the momentum created by an era of devolution deals and competitive regional funding pots has fired up civic and business leaders impatient for clearer opportunities and better life chances for people in the communities they represent.
Morgan Sindall Construction gathered a group from across the North East and Cumbria to discuss their hopes for the next five years. Whilst societal challenges abound in areas such as health and transport, the session focused on place-based regeneration and skills as routes to positive change.
