Highlights of 2023
Just some of the activities taking place over the last year...
The Acklam Road team and one of our supply chain partners, Stanmore, purchased two pergolas in June. The pergolas were installed in Al-Manaar’s Community Garden and will be used to grow cooking herbs using hanging baskets. In July, all partners involved in this project got together to view the pergolas.
We attended the City of Westminster College to talk to students about the Morgan Sindall business, the Acklam Road development and shared the education and career journey of our Engineer Tewodros Genda. Students asked Tewodros lots of questions about the options he selected, what his job entails, challenges and what he enjoys most about being an engineer.
We partnered with Bouygues to deliver a “Not Just for Boys” construction talk to students at St. Charles Catholic Sixth Form College. The session was organised by Construction Youth Trust and Monica Paul delivered a talk to five students about her career in construction, diversity within the construction industry, and opportunities for women in construction.
We provided storage space to The Children’s Book Project, a local charity that supports lots of disadvantaged children in the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. This charity is fully run by volunteers and was struggling to find storage space for their books. We offered our office space free of charge until February 2024.
We were approached by Al Manaar Muslim Culture & Heritage Centre asking for support to repair a leak in their nursery ceiling. We approached our drylining partner, Stanmore, and painting and decorating subcontractor, Bridgegap who agreed to carry out the improvement works over the month of August while the nursery was closed for the summer. We also joined forces with our supply chain partners to clean up a garden area at Al Manaar CHC, spending 30 hours cleaning and planting.
We partnered with Build Skill Plus to deliver Sector Based Training Academy – Employability Course to Kensington & Chelsea residents and worked alongside the Met Police to make improvements to Golborne Youth Centre.
A mural artwork was created for the hoarding at Acklam Road, designed via a collaboration with key creative players including a local school, local artist and our supply chain partners.
The mural arts project demonstrates our commitment to building strong relationships with the community, valuing their contributions and emphasising the importance of arts and culture in the area.
16 students from the University of West London visited the Acklam Road project in two groups to learn about the development. Kian Jafari, Project Manager, and Monica Paul delivered a presentation that included routes into construction and opportunities with Morgan Sindall.
Cian Forsyth, Apprentice Quantity Surveyor delivered a talk to eight students at Ormiston Latimer Academy, an alternative provision that provides education to vulnerable and challenging young people, located in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The event was organised by CYT (Construction Youth Trust) and Cian spoke to students about routes into apprenticeships, the process with Morgan Sindall, working hours and how he manages work and coursework being an Apprentice. Students had lots of questions for Cian and are considering joining the construction industry because of the visit.
We delivered careers in construction to NEETs on a Spear programme in North Kensington and supported a Speed Networking Session organised by Construction Youth Trust at The Fulham Boys School. We engaged with over 50 students from year 9, speaking about our business and answering questions which students had prepared in advance. Students came in groups of three and had five minutes with each employer.
Our Acklam Road Apprentice Quantity Surveyor attended the International Green Skills Conference: Skills for a Changing World held at the Imperial College London. Cian Forsyth spoke to the Secretary of State for Education, Gillian Keegan about his route into an apprenticeship with Morgan Sindall and his journey as an apprentice to date.
We were proud to be a part of the Burlington Junior School project in the Kingston area, contributing to the growth and development of the community.
We also held STEM days at Burlington Junior School with Year 6 (Build a Tower) and Year 3 (Build a Builder).
We have provided 10 people with work experience, from a variety of local schools!
We partnered with MenCap and have taken on a learner from their programme for two weeks to gain insight into different opportunities within the industry.
We delivered a talk at Robert Blair Primary School, followed by a site visit, and then gave the young people the challenge of drawing the project as part of a colouring competition. All drawings are displayed on the site hoarding and the winner won an iPad!
We have started a collaboration with the ‘Arts Xchange’ college where for the next three weeks, their students will visit site and take part in various hands-on workshops. So far we have done a drylining workshop where students were able to see a model of a drylining wall and try their hand at painting! The students are keen to learn about bricklaying in the next session shortly before Christmas.
Monica Paul, Beth Keswick, Anjali Pindoria, Megan Ryan and Helen Ruddy supported the Mayor of London's Design Future London Challenge, where we engaged and guided young students in helping them re-design a part of London. The six-week programme was held at Beacon High School, Islington and was organized in collaboration with Local Village Network.
Some incredible team members from the Bedford Passage site contributed some much-needed items to the Mind Mental Health Charity Shop in Fitzrovia. We're proud to support this fantastic organisation in their mission to promote mental health and well-being, and it's a reminder that small acts of kindness can make a big difference!
We delivered an Apprenticeship Talk at Hampstead School in Camden, where we spoke to over 200 students about roles within construction such as Site Manager and Quantity Surveying and spoke about apprenticeship opportunities on our Camden projects.
We had the privilege of attending a special breakfast event organised by the Young Camden Foundation in the historic Mayors Parlor at Camden Town Hall. YCF is the Mayor of Camden's charity of the year, and this event brought together local businesses working in the London Borough of Camden, including MSC. We engaged directly with YCF Members and the Mayor, discussing how we can make a positive impact in our community.
Our charity run in aid of the Single Homeless Project was a huge success and exceeded all expectations! The initial goal was to raise £500, but thanks to the incredible support and generosity of our participants and donors, we raised £800!!
The funds will play a crucial role in furthering the Single Homeless Project's mission and providing much-needed assistance to those in need.
We had a fantastic day celebrating community and sustainability at our Central Somers Town site in Camden. We partnered with Little Spoon Gelato, an earth-friendly ice cream supplier, to treat our residents to free delicious ice cream. It was so nice to see kids from local schools join in on the fun and to see the excitement on their faces with the free ice cream.
We have engaged with young students from various colleges in Camden to talk about all the opportunities we have within Morgan Sindall Construction.
We had the opportunity to have Raman Kaur Singh-Rai visit two of our sites recently in the London Borough of Camden. Ria's workshops on Mental Health was eye-opening and genuinely resonated with the team. We had positive feedback from both sites.
We celebrated diversity and workforce inclusion in honour of black history month with a Global Flavour Feast at both projects in the London Borough of Camden. Our sites are home to a diverse range of nationalities and cultures.
Everyone had the opportunity to try amazing dishes from India, Romania, Moldova and many more.
Both Camden Project Teams spent an afternoon sprucing up and helping maintain a local park near Kings Cross with Castlehaven Community Association. We also donated food to their local food bank and donated pumpkins for a fun carving activity with the residents.
We've also attended various jobs fairs, Care Leaver events, Action against Race Equality and Homelessness Covenant events.
We attended Southwark School in January 2023 to discuss Interview Skills with Students.

The LIHE Team hosted a sixth form work experience student looking into a career in the construction industry. She spent four days on site and was involved in site walk-arounds, looking at engineering drawings and shadowing the Design Manager.
They also collaborated with Construction Youth Trust (CYT) carrying out mock interviews with students based in Lambeth.
We engaged with 16 students from the University of East London studying MSc Construction Project Management about the Manor Road development followed by a guided tour.
We supported a Sustainability Careers Fest held at the London Stadium, hosted by Careers Hub East in November. Over 1500 students from across London attended the event to get inspired about Green Careers and we engaged with over 100 students at the all-day event, talking to learners about the Morgan Sindall business and the types of roles we have on offer.
We delivered a Boss Day event at Forest Gate Community School. Junior Engineer Ethan O'Brien and Apprentice Quantity Surveyor Ugne Augustauskaite spoke to several classes about careers in construction, our business, and the routes they took to enter the construction industry.
We partnered with our amazing subcontractors - Regal Construction 2000 Ltd and Bridgegap to support the AAA – Ambition, Aspire, Achieve, Newham-based charity that provides a range of services and activities to children and young people living in Newham, with particular focus on youngsters most in need, including those with disabilities or additional needs.
Our carpentry subcontractor Regal Construction 2000 Ltd spent a couple of days replacing wooden planks and repairing the adventure playground in July. In the first week of September, our painting and decorating subcontractor Bridgegap team spent a Saturday painting the adventure playground in the 32-degree heat!
As part of Suicide Prevention Week, we partnered up with Newham Council and a social enterprise business - Combat 2 Coffee to deliver an information outreach stand for the workforce on the Manor Road quarter project. Newham Council engaged with over 40 people on the day giving out useful information about financial support, well-being services and useful numbers.
Combat 2 Coffee gave away drinks and cake and encouraged staff to visit the stand. A fantastic collaboration on such an important matter.
We delivered a talk to T-Level students studying construction at Newvic Sixth Form College. Lee Askey, Project Director and Honor Lewis, Graduate Quantity Surveyor spoke about their education and career journey into Project Management and Quantity Surveying, which was followed by a Q&A.
Earlier this year we delivered a Spaghetti Challenge activity to Year Group 11 at LDEUTC. The activity was to introduce students to a construction company and students were asked to design and build the tallest tower.
We supported LDEUTC’s ‘Creating My Future Fair. The event was attended by year groups 9-13 with invitations extended to parents/carers. We spoke to learners about pathway options, future career choices, and opportunities with Morgan Sindall.
We supported the Mock Interview event at LDEUTC as part of National Apprenticeship Week. Manor Road Site Management and Engineering teams interviewed five students for 45 minutes each asking competency questions.
We sponsored and supported the WiC (Women into Construction) Employment Programme in Newham. As part of the programme, all contractors were asked to take part in a Speed Mock Interview session. We interviewed 15 women and invited our supply chain to support the five-week programme.
We delivered a Site Tour & Talk to the 15 women on the Women into Construction Employment Programme. They were split into two groups – group one went on a guided tour of the live construction site wearing their 5-point PPE with Michael Mouragian, Senior Site Manager and Sam Breaks, Senior Site Manager.
The second group received a presentation from David Williams Senior Project Manager, Laura Kirby, Quantity Surveyor and Monica Paul, Social Value Manager.
We were thrilled to welcome the Deputy Mayor of London Joanne McCartney to the Manor Road project site this year. The visit included a tour of the live construction site and talking to Morgan Sindall and our Supply Chain apprentices working on the project. Out of the five apprentices, four apprentices were local Newham residents.
Junior Engineer Ethan O’Brien and Apprentice Quantity Surveyor Ugne Augustauskaite attended Oasis Academy Silvertown to deliver a spaghetti challenge to a year group 9 class as part of their construction workshop.
The Manor Road team has provided work experience to 20 people this year.
Many students came from LDEUTC (London Design Engineering University Technical College) for a week-long placement with our Design Management, Site Management, and Engineering teams.
Our M&E subcontractor (ESG) provided a further four LDEUTC students with mechanical and electrical engineering work experience.
We teamed up with Elizabeth Oliveira, Senior Development Manager at MUSE to support an Options Day event organised by Inspire EBP. The all-day event for Year Group 8 students at Plashet Secondary Girls School received presentations from Elizabeth and Monica Paul, Social Value Manager about their education and career journey and talked about the various types of roles. We engaged with 80 students by attending three Year 8 classes and delivered a spaghetti challenge activity to each class, which was very well received by students.
We worked with New Life Wood, part of Nation Community Wood Recycling to build a raised flower bed for Anchor House, a Homeless Charity in Newham.
We visited LDE (London Design Engineering) UTC this year to judge presentations from learners, evaluating the pre-arranged hazards set out on the Manor Road project.
Two year 12 classes split into small groups to carry out the presentations to the team over two days.
We delivered an accredited art workshop in two primary schools this year and the artwork has been displayed on our construction hoarding.
All the children who were present in the session completed an Arts Award logbook which has been sent off to the awarding body Trinity, so their achievements can be recognised with an Arts Council England – Discover Arts Award.
We collaborated with our Brickwork subcontractor - Lee Marley and a school in Newham - School 21. Three Year 10 students built a bricked bench within the school premises with help from Lee Marley. Lee Marley and Morgan Sindall delivered two-hour workshops in May, teaching both bricklaying and teamwork skills, to build the bench which will be used by students for years to come.
We collaborated again with Social Enterprise business Combat2Coffee and O’Neill & Brennan to encourage conversation around mental health during Mental Health Awareness Week.
This year we placed four students from Newvic Sixth Form College on 45-day Industrial Placements on two of our London Projects.
We supported Newham’s Apprenticeship Fair, which was attended by over 600 young adults. Sam Kemp, Project Manager and Monica Paul engaged with 46 students at the event.
We are proud to have supported JFK Special School in Newham by delivering career-in-construction talks and about the two exciting developments in Newham to students with severe autism.
Students are working hard to produce artwork for the Newham Collegiate construction hoarding.
We supported the Our Newham Work Jobs Fair in Stratford, where we engaged with up to 30 people on a one-to-one basis and received several CVs of potential candidates to consider for upcoming roles with Morgan Sindall directly and our supply chain partners.
At the end of 2023, we partnered with out subcontract Multitech to deliver a presentation to students studying T-Level courses at Newham Council.
In collaboration with the CiTB, we delivered a talk about the support available to contractors from CiTB, this includes the benefits of registering with CiTB, grants available to small size businesses, and apprenticeship levy. Five subcontractors joined online whist three attended in person.
We hosted a site visit for 21 students from the University of Greenwich, studying MSc Construction Management. Students received a presentation from Mike Perera, Project Manager which was followed by a guided tour of the live construction site, with all students in 5-point PPE.
We supported the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s annual Jobs & Skills Fair event. The event was held at Charlton Athletic Football Stadium and was attended by over 800 Greenwich residents. We engaged with 35 residents, interested in jobs on the Woolwich Leisure Centre development.
Twin Group works specifically with overseas students studying at the University of Greenwich. Twin Group asked Morgan Sindall to deliver a talk about routes into construction which included work experience, year-out placement, and applying for jobs.
We delivered a talk about regeneration in Greenwich and about the Woolwich Leisure Centre development to year group 4 at Plum Croft Primary School. Children were asked what regeneration meant to them; this was followed by children being asked to design posters about regeneration for the Woolwich Leisure Centre construction hoarding.
We provided 10 art packs and paper to the school for this activity.
Graduate Quantity Surveyor, Raiyan Valimahomed delivered a talk to 30 T-Level and Built Environment students at LSEC Bromley Campus. Raiyan delivered a presentation covering the Morgan Sindall business, the Woolwich Leisure Centre development, and routes into construction.
A group of 16 candidates on a Royal Borough of Greenwich bootcamp programme attended the Woolwich Leisure Centre for a site visit as part of the programme. Project Manager, Mike Perera delivered a talk to the candidates which was followed by a guided tour.
Monica Paul supported the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s boot camp programme by being a Dragon on a Dragon’s Den style activity. Monica judged three group presentations about a construction business; the Dragons collectively decided on a winning group.
We had our first round of CSCS card training delivered to Greenwich residents for FREE this year, with various accredited courses planned for 2024!
We held a pre-selection interview day for T-Level Students at the City of Westminster College. The team will be taking on a student on a 45-day industrial placement in the New Year.
Our Marylebone Road project started in December; before coming on-site we invited 17 students from the University of Westminster studying MSc Construction Project Management to see the vacant site and understand the works we will be undertaking.
