Construction of a new standalone science building together with refurbishment and remodelling works to provide enhanced facilities.
The first project secured by Morgan Sindall Construction on the mid value lots of the DfE Contractor Framework, the scheme involves the construction of a new standalone 2,000m2 teaching block and 1,600m2 refurbishment of existing areas of the school, including external works and drainage. The project consolidates two Inspiration Trust schools across Great Yarmouth (Charter Academy and Trafalgar College) onto the site at Beaconsfield Road, expanding capacity from 7FE to 9FE (1,350 pupils and 150 sixth form students). Part of the scheme involves remodelling internal areas to provide additional teaching accommodation where it is lacking against the SoA.

Glenwood School is a wonderful new SEND school in Benfleet. Delivered in partnership with Essex County Council, the project was hugely inclusive of the end user from concept to completion.
The 210-place school for three to 19 year olds is a two-storey timber framed building with 26 spacious classrooms, a hydrotherapy pool and specialist facilities to help meet the young people’s sensory needs. The team also created independent living areas within the school that helps older students prepare for adulthood and an immersive room that uses projection imagery to provide a range of environments for young people to become accustomed to. Latterly, the team has returned to demolish the old school and construct a brand new 20-bedroom accommodation facility next to the new school, which will further support some of the young people and their families.

As the local Hailsham community expands, there was a definite need for a new primary school. Hailsham Community College Primary Academy was procured through the Orbis framework, a shared services partnership between East Sussex County Council, Brighton & Hove City Council and Surrey County Council. The modular panels were produced off site by Streif, and arrived on site complete with external doors and fully glazed windows in just 35 deliveries. This method of construction meant that there was an estimated 75% reduction in operative journeys to site, which equates to around 84,000 miles saved – a huge reduction in CO2 emissions, which also had the benefit of minimising the impact on local roads and the community around the school through the construction phase.
