**Social Value Highlights**
We promise to plan for, deliver and measure the social value investment our project creates.
At the onset, we collaboratively developed a Social Value Charter alongside Sandwell MBC (shown overleaf). This has established a set of KPIs which we are using to measure ourselves against and ultimately drive benefit beyond the boundaries of this site.
The social value we create is monetised through Morgan Sindall Group's Social Value Bank, evidencing our outcomes in line with the HM Treasury Green Book and wider OECD guidelines.
Whilst social value monetisation is great, we also want to tell the human story. We have therefore showcased some of the projects' social value initiatives overleaf. We will continue to add to these highlights as the project progresses.

Delivering social value investment is a key part of our commitments here. Right from the start we developed a set of KPIs which we are using to measure ourselves against and ultimately drive benefit beyond the boundaries of this site.
In October, we supported the launch of the Team KPG 546 challenge, where the team will be walking, running, swimming or cycling 546 miles to remember the number of people who died by suicide in the West Midlands during 2022.“We were grateful to Brian and Andy, as long term supporters of KPG, for knocking off a few miles to help us get started and kindly providing the logo board behind the bike. Thank You!” Calum Nisbet,CEO, The Kaleidoscope Plus GroupIf you could spare £10 to sponsor the team, please follow this link: https://lnkd.in/eWWwRPbB
We were delighted to provide 6 Sandwell residents with the opportunity to gain a CSCS card and complete work experience with us on site. Working in collaboration with the Sandwell Council Employment Team, an information session was held at the YMCA in West Bromwich, showcasing the opportunity for interested residents. 6 people then signed up to take part, joining us on site for a week in August. This included spending time working with our Stone Masons, Roofers, Decorators and Window Installers.
In addition to the work experience, we also sponsored £1,850 to fund the candidates 1 day CITB H&S Awareness Course and qualification, as well as their CSCS Card H&S registration and test. All of the candidates passed their H&S Awareness course, and we're now waiting to hear on their CSCS results. To complete the week, Randstad joined us on site to register the candidates on the Morgan Sindall Labour Desk. Great work all!
Our team got stuck into some volunteering work at Goldicroft Park in Wednesbury - preparing wildflower areas, erecting fences, litter picking, and creating some habitat structures! We'll be back in August to complete the planting works.
This project was completed as part of Morgan Sindall Construction’s partnership with Groundwork - a charity that mobilises practical action on poverty and the environment across the UK. Massive thanks to our supply chain partners Jack Moody Group and Caxton Group for supporting this event, we couldn’t have done it without you!
Our West Bromwich Town Hall & Library project team hosted a Black Country Day celebration at the Town Hall in July.
The event celebrated the rich cultural heritage, fascinating history, and continuous evolution of the Black Country region. Attendees enjoyed a performance by Me Dance Company, tucked into great food from The Catchy Fish, listened to local music from Aphrodite Springs and browsed stalls from local charities and vendors, including The Kaleidoscope Plus Group and Centre Spot CIC. The day was also enriched by a talk about the importance of Black Country Day in West Bromwich.
Click the video to the left to see Jay, an Apprentice from our roofing subcontractor, NRA Roofing, putting his skills to great use on the Town Hall!
We are delighted to have six T Level students from Sandwell College with us on site for some extensive work experience within May/June.
Three of the students are studying painting and decorating, and the other three are studying plastering.
The students have worked closely with our subcontractor, Henley Projects on the sash windows and plastering to the new curators office. Excellent work all!
We are also supporting Centre Spot CIC, another of the existing West Bromwich Town Hall tenants with £1,000 of funding which will be used to purchase new kits for their CS Colts Under 9's teams and help fund their mentors/coaches that supply training and courses to local children.
Centre Spot CIC is a social enterprise that uses sports and physical activity to engage and build capacities of people, particularly young people. Centre Spot seeks to encourage the uptake of physical activity, and improve the physical well-being of communities.
CS Colts was formed at the request of parents who wanted their children to play for a club that offered a safe and fun environment, as well as having the benefit of being coached by highly experience coaches. Watch this space for more updates!
In June, Shuaib, a local work experience student from Queen Mary's High School joined us for a 1-week work experience in conjunction with Sandwell Visually Impaired (SVI) to create a piece for the Sandwell Talking News.
SVI, who are one of the existing West Bromwich Town Hall tenants is managed and run by blind and visually impaired people. Their mission is to improve the lives of people with sight loss in Sandwell and they give information and support to anyone in Sandwell with an interest in visual impairment. Their services enable visually impaired people to be as independent as possible.
We also hosted Bisma on site in June, a second-year BA Architecture student from Birmingham City University who was completing a two-week work experience placement with Apec Architects, our architect for the scheme.
In addition to spending time with us on site, she has also had the opportunity with Apec to learn Vectorworks, draw floor plans from point clouds, fill in door and window schedules and much more.
Bisma is also a regional finalist for the Women In Property National Student Award in June. Best of luck Bisma!
Massive thanks to Randstad who visited us on site to help highlight the significance of single-use plastics to the environment by handing out reusable drinks bottles and mugs to our subcontractors working on the project.Single-use plastics contribute significantly to environmental pollution. They pose a grave threat to marine life and ecosystems. Annually, millions of tons of plastic enter oceans, contaminating waterways and harming wildlife. To combat this crisis, we must start by reducing single-use plastic consumption and promoting sustainable alternatives.
We were delighted to again sponsor and play in the 2024 Nick Mowl Cup. This is an annual charity football tournament held in aid of The Kaleidoscope Plus Group, a Midlands-based mental health and well-being charity. West Bromwich Town Hall & Library Project Manager Brian Wiley is a longstanding event supporter, again raising £4,125 for this year's tournament.
A solid performance from the Morgan Sindall team led to us finishing third in our group, unfortunately just missing out on a spot in the quarter finals by a single place. Congratulations to this year's winners, Melchester Rovers, and we're already looking forward to getting out that group next year!
“Huge thanks to all the organisers, players, generous supporters and Morgan Sindall Construction for raising huge amounts of money for The Kaleidoscope Plus Group’s suicide awareness programmes”. Calum Nisbet, CEO, The Kaleidoscope Plus Group

In celebration of Sandwell Council's 50th Anniversary, we hired a fish and chip van on site for our workforce, the West Bromwich Town Hall tenants and Council staff to enjoy.
Supporting its local community, the Central Library is part of Sandwell Council’s Welcoming Spaces programme. This is an initiative where visitors receive a warm welcome, free hot drinks and information, resources and guidance on keeping warm and tackling the increasing cost of living – all within a safe space.
To show our appreciation, the Morgan Sindall Construction team installed a dishwasher in March and have donated a variety of tea, coffee, sugar, milk, hot chocolate and biscuits for the libraries Welcoming Spaces programme. Thanks again to the Library team!
Huge congratulations to Jamaal Khan, Graduate Site Manager on our West Bromwich Town Hall & Library project for being nominated for Young Site Manager Of The Year at the Building The Future Awards. Fingers crossed! 🏆
Midland Masonry are restoring the brick and stone facades including making and installing the stone finials to the front high street.
We documented with a short film to showcase the journey. Big thank you again to Midland Masonry.

We supported another Sandwell Council ‘Meet the Buyer’ event in March 2024, hosted again at the Hawthorns. The event was a collaboration between Sandwell Council, Constructing West Midlands and other Black Country local authorities and was a great opportunity for local businesses to get face-to-face with some of the Midlands’ largest construction contractors and public-sector buyers.
Brian Wiley (Project Manager), Dean Jetson (Supply Chain Manager) and Oliver Mcmullan (Quantity Surveyor) attended on behalf of Morgan Sindall.
In February 2024, our site team donated and installed £450 worth of desks for Sandwell Visually Impaired (SVI), who are one of the existing West Bromwich Town Hall tenants. Their mission is to improve the lives of people with sight loss in Sandwell.
SVI is managed and run by blind and visually impaired people. They give information and support to anyone in Sandwell with an interest in visual impairment. Their services enable visually impaired people to be as independent as possible and help overcome the challenges of sight loss.
In collaboration with Sandwell Council Social Value Manager, Michael Wragg, our scaffolding subcontractor, Independent Scaffolding Services Ltd, donated their time to erect scaffolding for the local Cradley Heath Community Link. This enabled the Communuty Link to have new windows installed, which were donated by Sycamore Windows.
Wonderful to see the community collaborating on this!
In recognition of our workforces hard work throughout the winter, in February we hired Juicy Jackets, a traditional baked potato catering specialist. We also invited the West Bromwich Town Hall tenants and the client team to enjoy the food, which were freshly cooked on site in their authentic Victorianstyle oven.
In February, we visited Northcot Brick Ltd, our supplier who is making 16 different types of special bricks on for our West Bromwich Town Hall & Library project.
We documented the day with a short film to showcase the journey we are on renovating this magnificent 150 year old building as part of the regeneration project for the local community of Sandwell. Big thank you to all at Northcot Brick Ltd for their warm welcome and hospitality and to Midland Masonry for organising the visit. Great to see the attention to detail that still goes into making these specialist heritage products!
We again supported Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice and John Taylor Hospice as part of their Treecycling campaign, helping to collect over 6,200 Christmas trees from local residents across Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield and Solihull in return for a donation to The Hospice Charity Partnership. This year’s campaign raised over £140,500, with every pound going directly towards providing expert care for people living in Birmingham with life-limiting illness, as well as supporting their families and loved ones.
The collected trees which were chipped to generate both compost and biomass power, preventing thousands of trees from otherwise going to landfill.
In December, our West Bromwich Town Hall & Library project team donated over £560's worth of branded T-shirts, pin badges and drawstring bags for the local charity ROAM.
ROAM was co-founded in 2018 by Naomi Fisher of Apec Architects, our Architect for the scheme. She's a passionate advocate for children’s free play in nature, which motivated her to take positive action, and ROAM was born! ROAM's mission is to facilitate children's free play in nature with minimal supervision, to support others to do so, and to campaign for every child's right to independent play.
In October, our West Bromwich Town Hall & Library project team had the privilege of supporting The Kaleidoscope Plus Group’s 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner, raising funds in aid of mental health. In total the Morgan Sindall team were able to raise a further £3,825 for the charity, building upon the funds raised earlier in the year through our support of the Nick Mowl Cup.
“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your continued support. Your presence and contribution made a significant difference and helped us take one step closer to our goal of raising awareness and much-needed funds for our services!” Monica Shafaq, Chief Executive Officer, The Kaleidoscope Plus Group
In September, Naomi Fisher of APEC Architects gave a presentation on Public Participation and Social Value to post graduate architectural students at Birmingham City University's (BCU's) School of Architecture. The presentation featured a range of case studies illustrating how social value could be realised in both the design and construction process, and how it is increasingly an essential feature in procurement. The second half of the presentation focussed on Morgan Sindall’s own approach to Social Value, demonstrating the range of ways they are engaging with community organisations and training local people in the delivery of their construction projects.
“This talk opened my eyes to how our industry can add value to society through the process and not just the end product - I’ll definitely be trying to get the practice I work at to embed some of these ideas." Professional Studies Masters Student, Birmingham City University
We were delighted to support Sandwell MBC’s Inclusive Disability Employment Event in June 2023. The event was held for school leavers, young people and adults with disabilities looking for paid employment.
In June, Sandwell MBC invited us to their Supporting Care Leavers into Employment, Education and Training event. The initiative, set up as part of Corporate Parenting Week, was a three-way conversation between employers, Care Experienced young people and employment and skills professionals to gain insights into how we can work together to support Care Leavers to access and maximise opportunities. It was a great opportunity to hear examples of recent successes, share best practice, and give the young people an opportunity to meet with employers.
We are looking to support the group further through work experience opportunities on our West Bromwich Town Hall Project.
Morgan Sindall Construction and Lovell were delighted to support Sandwell Children’s Trust’s annual fun day on Wednesday 31st May at the Coneygre Arts Centre in Tipton. The annual event was held for children in care and care leavers over half-term, featuring a number of interactive games and activities including a climbing wall, bouncy castles, inflatables, carnival games, gaming, multi sports, free food, drinks and even included a performance on the drums from a talented member of The Voices of Sandwell, a group who represent local children in care.
Pictured from left to right are Michael Wragg (Sandwell Council), Andrew Clayton (Morgan Sindall Construction), Kelly Truman and Earl Patrick (Lovell). We had a great time, though, the children certainly humbled us when it came to our Connect 4 abilities!
On the back of our fundraising efforts, the Morgan Sindall Construction team took part in The Nick Mowl Cup on the 6th May 2023, helping to raise £2,297 for the Kaleidoscope Plus Group.
Having become an annual tournament, the event cumulatively has raised over £50,000 for the charity, which has been used to set up it’s suicide prevention text messaging service.
The rain didn’t dampen our spirits, although we should aim to place a tiny bit higher than bottom of our group next time…
We’ll be bouncing back for next year!

We are once again sponsoring and entering a team into The Nick Mowl Cup. Local semi-pro footballer, Nick Mowl, sadly died by suicide in 2017 after suffering from poor mental health. His friends and family started a six-a-side tournament in his honour, and used the funds raised to support The Kaleidoscope Plus Group, a local mental health and wellbeing charity and it’s 24/7 suicide prevention service.
This is the fourth year we have supported the event and we have also worked with the event organisers to film a video to help spread awareness and tell Nick’s story, shown overleaf and via the link below. Huge thanks to Sandwell Council for the use of their Town Hall to film this - a superb backdrop!

In April, Morgan Sindall Project Manager Brian Wiley presented to Sandwell College T-Level students, introducing them to Morgan Sindall and our West Bromwich Town Hall & Library project.
We also invited our supply chain partner Pam Mejor, a brickwork specialist from Midlands Masonry. Pam gave the students an excellent presentation on lime mortar.
“I would like to say from me, the team and all our learners a massive thank you for your time today. You have truly inspired them, and your valuable knowledge will be essential to them in the future. Looking forward to working with you on the project.” Craig Neal, Lecturer, Sandwell College
In March 2023, Morgan Sindall Project Manager Brian Wiley and Social Value Manager Andrew Clayton visited Sandwell College and took Craig Neal on a tour of our West Brom Town Hall Quarter Project. Craig is a Lecturer for Sandwell College.
We will be regularly collaborating with Craig throughout the works to engage with his T Level students, utilising the project to enhance student learning by providing expert presentations, site tours and work experience opportunities.
Exciting times ahead!
In March, Brian Wiley (Project Manager), Andrew Clayton (Social Value Manager), Mark Evans (Sandwell Council Project Lead) and Richard Amos (Sandwell Council FM Project Lead) also held a series of tenant meetings with the Town Hall residents to update them on progress and answer any questions.
We had a great time supporting Sandwell Council's ‘Meet the Buyer’ event in March, hosted at the Hawthorns. The event was a collaboration between Sandwell Council, Constructing West Midlands and other Black Country local authorities and was a great opportunity for local businesses to get face-to-face with some of the Midlands’ largest construction contractors and public-sector buyers.
Dave Kelly (CWM Framework Manager), Dean Jetson (Supply Chain Manager) and Andrew Clayton (Social Value Manager) attended on behalf of Morgan Sindall.
The day also included presentations about major initiatives including the Towns Fund, the Regeneration Pipeline and HS2, as well as social value and where to find new business opportunities.
