A role model for students
Another West Suffolk College student, Ben Coleman, has recently been promoted to Assistant Site Manager, but started his Morgan Sindall Construction journey as a work experience placement from West Suffolk College.
He has taken part in podcasts, guest lectures, STEM events, and even taken a mentor role with a number of students who have gone on to secure full-time apprenticeship positions.
Ben, along with 20 other Morgan Sindall Construction staff who live and work in Bury St Edmunds, have been part of the same mentoring programme with the students.
“Having local people, close to the college, who work in the industry is a great way to provide role models. These colleagues are the ones who mentored me on my journey and I’m really glad to be part of the group that is supporting future students now,” says Ben. “What we’ve been doing is mapping their career journeys so we can show all the different pathways to a career in our industry.”
This year, Finlay Curr from West Suffolk College enjoyed a full-time paid summer placement with the business and has since gone on to secure a full-time apprenticeship with us. Here, in this short vlog, he explains just what the opportunity has meant to him.
