Despite being built during the Covid-19 pandemic, Lovell constructed 50 semi-detached homes and bungalows for social rent in Callander both on time and on budget. The development included a play park and informal community recreation area. A strategic working group was set up between the Local Planning Department, SEPA, Scottish Water, SNH, Historic Environment Scotland, Road Department and Transport Scotland to ensure the homes were delivered sympathetically to the surround areas of Callander, Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Lovell used its own housing types plus a mixed use of natural finishing materials such as stone and timber cladding. Feedback from the community also resulted in amendments to the design and the inclusion of 4 bed houses.
Can I just say what an ongoing pleasure it is to work with the site team at Claish Farm. Any repair issue is dealt with so efficiently – communication all round is excellent and everything is so organised for the property handovers.
The West Lothian Framework formed part of a long term partnership with West Lothian Council to deliver 738 homes. At the time, this was the largest council housing development to take place throughout Scotland.
Looking to address both the housing need and shortage of high quality council homes in the area, the projects provide a mix of cottage flats, houses and bungalows. Lovell were selected to deliver the first phase of this programme, delivering 545 social homes across eight sites.
Lovell worked with the Scottish Government and Scottish Natural Heritage to develop a method of working that avoided disturbing the natural habitats. It also carried out extensive excavation and archaeological works, adding sustainable urban drainage and flood mitigation solutions.
The quality of the homes Lovell has built has been excellent.”
Lovell was appointed by Places for People for its ongoing regeneration of Wester Hailes, aimed at bringing together improvements to the community and 183 much-needed affordable homes. Built on six acres of brownfield land that had remained vacant for 20 years, Lovell constructed 40 townhouses with gardens plus 143 flats arranged in four and six storey blocks. Of these, 47 homes were affordable rent, 62 were mid-market rent and 74 were for shared equity sale.
The flats were arranged in squares around private landscaped courtyards to create a varied and active streetscape. A pedestrian priority zone was also created to link the new blocks to neighbouring community creating seamless continuity.
The local community have been campaigning for a number of years to have this site developed and I’m pleased that this will contribute towards the ongoing regeneration of Wester Hailes.
